Professional Learning Communities- ECI 508
During PLCs we use the first 10-15 minutes of each weekly meeting to address grade level SMART goals. Â Most of these SMART goals are address towards comprehension, phonics, writing, and vocabulary. In my ECI I learned the importance of Professional Learning Communities and the desired outcomes from these meetings. Â These meetings also help teachers in our school to become teacher leaders within the school. Â Teacher leaders help lead these mini professional developments in their PLCs.
Writing Mini Professional Development Strategies in PLCs- ECI 509
A writing frame consists of a skeleton outline to scaffold children's writing. The skeleton framework consists of different key words or phrases. Writing frames give student's a structure within which they can concentrate on communicating what they want to say, rather than getting lost in the form. While taking ECI 509 I created a Livebinder to keep all the wonderful resources I found and learned from this class.

Professional Development for Literacy- ECI 544 and 543
Focus on Phonics and Guided Reading with training on Fundations and Fountas and Pinnell. Â Provide teachers with training on how to teach word patterns and how to teach an effective guided reading lesson. Â Using information learned from ECI 544 and 543 our school chose to use Fountas and Pinnell to help train our teachers on guided reading groups. Â Due to time restraints and other professional development focuses our school administrators opted to use a program called Fundations to help K-2 teachers with the instruction of phonics and phonological awareness. Â County curriculum coaches help with offering these workshops.
